Petrified Forest, AZ—National parks are offering a series of fee- free days for 2011—an encouragement to all to celebrate and enjoy your public lands this year! Mark your calendars for fee-free weekends at the national parks this year: January 15-17—Martin Luther King, Jr. Birthday weekend April 16-24—National Park Week June 21—First day of summer September 24—Public Lands Day November 11-13—Veterans Day weekend Daily guided programs (times change throughout the year; check the website and/or the visitor centers for times): Painted Desert Inn Tour: Explore this intriguing National Historic Landmark with a ranger and discover its fascinating past. Triassic Program: How did these once living trees turn to stone? Meet in the Rainbow Forest Museum sunroom. Find out on this ranger talk or easy guided walk along the Giant Logs Trail. There are some stairs along the trail. Puerco Pueblo Program:Find out about the ancestral Puebloan people who once lived in this 100-room pueblo. Meet at the Puerco Pueblo Trail at the south end of the parking lot for an easy ranger-guided 1/3 mile walk. *The fee waiver includes: entrance fees, commercial tour fees, and transportation entrance fees. Other fees such as reservation, camping, tours, concession and fees collected by third parties are not included unless stated otherwise.
