Artist Bio Matt Tucker is a self-taught photographer now living in Lawrence, Kansas. Extensive travel in North America, as well as occasional visits to Latin America and Southern Africa, has allowed him to build a diverse portfolio. Matt's artwork is currently represented in fine art galleries in Alaska and Kansas, and has been exhibited in North Carolina, Montana, Arizona, Alaska and Kansas. Recently, he was published for the first time in the literary journal, Foliate Oak. Matt's photography accomplishments continue to grow, as he has multiple fine art exhibits and fairs booked for 2016. He is also very excited to complete his first National Park Service Artist Residency in January, where he will focus on the intimate, close-up details of the ancient landscape of Petrified Forest National Park.
I am a photographer of all things beautiful, but I am particularly drawn to nature's intimate details. Seeking these small, often-overlooked features provides me the opportunity to walk quietly and mindfully
with my camera. When doing so, I am able to notice beauty in all places, and I become more conscious of the stories unfolding around me. To some, the image here may merely resemble a rock in the mud. However, if you contemplate the image, it tells a dramatic, timeless story of life in the brilliant slot canyons of the American Southwest. I encourage the viewer to slow down and to absorb the infinite beauty everywhere.
Photography has the power to move an individual's spirit. It plays a vital role in protecting what is precious to preserve by linking the viewer with the subject. With this human-nature connection, artists have the capacity to positively direct environmental impact. I am inspired and humbled by the opportunity to provide this bridge.
