Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument will temporarily suspend entrance and camping fees for the month of July. Visitors to the monument will not be charged the $8.00 entrance fee, $12.00 Twin Peaks camping fee or $8.00 Alamo Canyon primitive camping fee. The 21 day camping limit at Twin Peaks and 7 day limit at Alamo Canyon will still be in effect. "Campers will be required to register for campsites so we can track statistic and length of stay," said Park Guide Betty Cogdill. "There are plenty of sites open and for those in RVs the generator hours have also been suspended in part of the campground." The Monument will still sell America the Beautiful – National Parks and Federal Recreational Lands Passes. Historically the Monument receives fewer visitors during the summer months. "The fee suspension is on a trial basis to encourage travelers and local residents to visit the Monument and enjoy the naturally changing scenery," reported Superintendent Lee Baiza. During July the Organ Pipe Cactus fruit ripen and wildlife that is hibernating during the winter are active. "The summer provides a unique opportunity to experience the Sonoran Desert. The chance of seeing wildlife increases during the morning and evenings hours and the photography is fantastic when the monsoon storms start rolling in," said Chief of Interpretation Sue Walter.
