The Archeology Program:

Develops and coordinates service-wide policies, standards, and procedures for managing archeological resources.

Provides staff advice, technical assistance, and professional development regarding the identification, evaluation, documentation, inventory, protection, and interpretation of archeological resources.

Maintains an archeological site inventory and other statistics.

Coordinates with other disciplines to ensure interdisciplinary management practices.
Managing Sites and Collections
Strategic planning for the preservation and protection of archeological resources; development and review of policy and procedure; support for Director's Order #28A and reference manual; management of archeological site inventory database; technical guidance and training with associated disciplines; parks and regions peer review assistance

Workforce Development
Analysis of training needs, curriculum development, administrative support; distribution of the Archeology E-Gram, announcements, and training through various media; development of technical guidance, technical briefs, and studies
Public Outreach and Education
Strategic planning and marketing; hosting of interns and volunteers; coordination of youth programs; development of K-12 educational resources; interpretation and visitor services guidance; management of archeology websites on nps.gov; response to public inquiries
Working with Partners
Strategic partnerships with NPS program offices and U.S. agencies, states, universities, professional organizations, private groups, Indian tribes, members of the public; partnership agreement management; collaboration on projects to support mutual goals.
