Macon, GA – Ocmulgee Mounds National Historical Park is announcing that the annual Ocmulgee Indian Celebration is going to be virtual this year. For the past 28 years the event has been held on park grounds but for the health and safety of our visitors, employees, volunteers, and partners is our number one priority. The National Park Service (NPS) is working service wide with federal, state, and local authorities to closely monitor the COVID-19 pandemic, we regret to announce we will not be able to safely host the large Ocmulgee Indian Celebration.
However, we will continue the tradition of honoring the American Indian people and cultures. The Ocmulgee Indian Celebration will look different this year, but you will still be able to experience dancing, storytelling, demonstrations, crafting, and cooking generously shared by American Indian artists and community members.
Join us Sept.19 and 20 for videos premiering on our park’s Facebook page highlighting each of the important aspects that make the OIC such a special event. The videos will include content such as dancing, storytelling, demonstrations, crafting, and cooking. Although you won’t be at the park to experience this event, we encourage you to still participate and hear and see these cultures that these participants have been so gracious to share with us!
We look forward to being together for more Ocmulgee Indian Celebrations in the future. For more information please visit https://www.nps.gov/ocmu
