There was no significant spread overnight on the Sourdough Fire. The Sourdough Fire is estimated at 25 acres. The increase in acreage is due to more accurate mapping following Sunday evening’s update.The fire is flanking and backing on all aspects of the fire in heavy dead and downed fuels. The Type-1 La Grande Hotshots will join rappelers in Monday’s operations. The crews will be supported by aerially delivered water with Fire Boss scooper planes and four helicopters. The North Cascades Fire Crew is assessing infrastructure in the town of Diablo for protection measures if the need may arise.
A 23-person Type-2 Initial Attack Crew and a Type-3 Southern Area Gray Incident Management Team have been ordered. The Type-3 Southern Area Gray Team will assume command of the Sourdough Fire on August 1, 2023.
High temperatures and gusty winds up to 13 mph with dry and unstable conditions are expected throughout the afternoon.
If you fly, we can’t. Unauthorized drone flights (UAS) pose serious risks to firefighter and public safety and the effectiveness of wildfire suppression operations. Aerial firefighting is suspended when unauthorized UAS are in the area, allowing wildfire to grow larger.
Trail and camp closures remain in effect due to fire activity. Closure information can be found at https://www.nps.gov/noca/planyourvisit/fire-closures.htm. Access across Diablo Dam is limited to Skagit Tours, Ross Lake Resort, and North Cascades Environmental Learning Center reservation holders only.
Visitors should be aware of fire restrictions in all areas of the park complex. Campfires or the ignition of wood, briquettes, or any fuel in fire pits, fire pans, and barbeque grills, are banned in in all portions of North Cascades National Park Service Complex – North Cascades National Park, Ross Lake National Recreation Area, and Lake Chelan National Recreation Area. This includes all National Park Service lands and campgrounds along State Route 20 as well as Hozomeen and the entire Stehekin Valley.
