With unseasonably high temperatures and very little cumulative moisture, an elongated fire season continues across the region. As a result, smoke lingers in valleys on both sides of the Cascade Crest, with upcoming increased smoke west of the Cascades due to easterly winds. Moderate fire behavior and smoky conditions will remain until a season ending rain event, with no predicted rain in the forecast.

Beginning Monday, October 3, the portion of Thunder Creek Trail between Neve and Junction camps is closed due to fire activity. The size of McAllister Creek Fire is unknown at this time because firefighters have been unable to accurately map the fire due to smoke and unsafe flying conditions. Moderate fire activity will continue through next week with warm temperatures and dry conditions.

The Big Beaver and Little Beaver trails are now open. Trail and camp closures remain in effect in all other areas within the park complex. Closure information can be found on the Trail Conditions page.

With active fires across the region, a haze in the general area is to be expected over the coming days. Take caution when recreating outdoors when smoke is present. Learn more at Real-Time Air Quality Map | PurpleAir, airnow.gov or visit https://wasmoke.blogspot.com/
