Glen Jean, West Virginia — Want to discover more of southern West Virginia’s hidden and not-so-hidden history, the stories of people and places? Then join in on the 11th Annual Hidden History Weekend, September 27-29, 2019, a celebration of the region’s rich and diverse heritage. These FREE guided walks and hikes highlight the area’s early people from the mid-1700s to the region’s 1900s industrial boom. Explore history through a different lens as well with a camera, on a bike, or even getting a bit hands-on with tools used by coal miners back-in-the-day. Public programs, exhibits, and heritage sites are here to explore these people stories at New River Gorge National River, the National Coal Heritage Area, Hinton Historic District, Tamarack, and the West Virginia state parks of Babcock, Carnifex Ferry Battlefield, Hawks Nest, Pipestem Resort, and Twin Falls Resort.
Whether you want to get active where history happened, take a deep dive into local stories, or see traditionally created arts, Hidden History Weekend is for you! Wear comfortable shoes for all guided hikes. Water, snacks, and a camera are useful tools to bring along. Find program descriptions, dates, times, and meeting locations at https://www.nps.gov/neri/
