Natchez Trace Parkway and Mississippi Hills National Heritage Area presents music group Injunuity

TUPELO, MS - To commemorate American Indian Heritage Month and the National Park Service Centennial, the Natchez Trace Parkway and the Mississippi Hills National Heritage Area will sponsor American Indian music group Injunuity on October 29, 2016. The 7:00 pm to 8:30 pm performance at the Elvis Presley Birthplace and Museum in Tupelo, MS, includes two musical sets and features the award-winning Natchez Trace Parkway film.

The National Park Service is celebrating 100 years of sharing America's special places and facilitating meaningful connections to nature, history, and culture through special centennial events. National parks are often referred to "America's Best Idea" and the resources they contain are preserved for all Americans.

National Heritage Areas (NHAs) are designated by Congress as places where natural, cultural, and historic resources combine to form a cohesive, nationally important landscape. Through their resources, NHAs tell nationally important stories that celebrate our nation's diverse heritage. The Mississippi Hills National Heritage Area (MHNHA) covers 19 full counties and portions of 11 others in the northeastern part of Mississippi. MHNHA represents a distinctive cultural landscape shaped largely by the dynamic intersection of Appalachian and Delta cultures, which produced a powerful concentration of nationally significant cultural icons. Hills natives Elvis Presley, William Faulkner, Tennessee Williams, Howlin' Wolf, Jerry Lee Lewis, John Grisham, and Tammy Wynette forged lasting contributions to our country's musical and literary legacies.

Injunuity's music promotes the introduction of Native American music and history into popular culture, helping break stereotypes about Native Americans and the music within the Indian culture.

Injunuity is a Native American flute-centric roots group forged in 2007 by award-winning composers Brad Clonch (Mississippi Choctaw) and Jeff Carpenter (Chickasaw). Since their inception, Injunuity released four full-length albums;received multiple national music awards;performed across the United States and Europe;and has been featured in radio, TV, documentaries, and feature-length films.

This program is free to the public. There will be 125 seats available on a first-come, first-served basis. The Elvis Presley Birthplace and Museum is located at 306 Elvis Presley Drive, Tupelo, Mississippi.
