The Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma and the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians are two federally recognized tribes with the same ancient ancestry. The Indian Removal Act of signed by Andrew Jackson on May 28, 1830, fractured the tribes of many of the first peoples who lived on North America.
Some Choctaws stayed in their homeland and became the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians. Others were removed to Oklahoma and formed the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma.
Choctaw were the first code talkers, starting in WW1. Learn about them from the Choctaw people.
