Mount Rainier National Park Superintendent Randy King, Washington State Department of Transportation and Federal Highway Administration officials announce micro-surfacing of a 7 mile section of State Route (SR) 123 from Cayuse Pass (intersection with SR410) south is scheduled to begin August 6, 2012 with contract completion on or before August 16, 2012.

Granite/International Slurry Seal will be performing the work and crews will be working Mondays through Fridays, with no weekend work anticipated.

During this period visitors should anticipate 15 minute delays Mondays through Fridays.

SR 123 serves the east side of the park, extending for approximately 20 miles from the intersection of U.S. 12 to the south to the intersection with SR 410 on the north at Cayuse Pass. SR 410 also serves the east side of the park, extending from SR167 near Sumner, WA, east 107 miles over the Cascade Range at Chinook Pass to the intersection with U.S. 12, 4 miles west of Naches, WA. SR 410 is one of five state highways that connect the Puget Sound area with eastern Washington. SR 410 is closed at the park boundary during the winter months, approximately early December to late May.
