Kayak Program Assistant

Do you enjoy working with people? Are you an experienced paddler looking for more opportunities to get onto the water?

Volunteer as a Kayak Program Assistant and help park staff with weekly kayak clinics from June to September. At each clinic, beginner paddlers learn the basics of water safety, paddling strokes, and how to get in and out of their kayak. Then, everyone gets to test their skills on the water. Volunteers who aid with these programs help load and unload equipment, distribute lifejackets and paddles, and monitor participants on our tour of Lake Yankton.

Overall, it's a great opportunity to share your passion for paddling, meet new people, encourage water safety, and spend time kayaking!

River Rover

Are you a paddling pro? Enjoy kayaking on the 39- and 59-mile districts of the Missouri National Recreational River (MNRR)?

Consider applying to be a River Rover. These volunteers float segments of the MNRR while greeting boaters and other river users, encouraging water safety, and monitoring river conditions. River roves are conducted in groups of two or more and are scheduled as needed.

Prospective volunteers should have plenty of experience kayaking and be comfortable talking with the public. By volunteering as a River Rover, you can explore new sections of the MNRR, meet other avid paddlers, help protect river users, and more!
