Manhattan Project National Historical Park is partnering with the Children’s Museum of Oak Ridge (CMOR), and the Girl Scouts of USA to celebrate National Girl Scout Week on Saturday, March 9. Beginning at 10:00 AM (ET) at CMOR, individual girl scouts and/or troops are welcome to participate in hands-on activities until 2:00 PM. Admission to CMOR will be free on that day for any girl scout in uniform and their families.

This year’s theme centers around peace, and girl scouts will be making a gift to be sent to our sister city in Naka-shi, Japan. By completing the day’s activities, each girl scout can earn the “Hearts Around the World” patch.

National Girl Scout week begins March 10, which commemorates the day in 1912, when founder, Juliette Gordon Low, officially registered the organization’s first troop. This year, represents the 107th birthday of the Girl Scouts of USA, which was the first youth organization allowed in Oak Ridge, during World War II.
