SPRINGFIELD, IL: On February 3rd, visiting rangers Nick Sacco (Ulysses S. Grant National Historic Site) and Ve’Amber Miller (Pullman National Historical Park) will participate in a panel discussion hosted by the Springfield and Central Illinois African American History Museum (1440 Monument Ave, Springfield, IL 62702) at 7:00 PM. Nick Sacco is a Historian and Museum Curator at Ulysses S. Grant National Historic Site in St. Louis, Missouri. From 1854 to 1859, Grant lived and worked at White Haven along with enslaved African American laborers.

Ve'Amber Miller is a Park Ranger from Pullman National Historical Park in Chicago, IL. She has worked at the park since May 2017 as an interpreter, educator, web and social media expert, and front desk greeter. In the early 20th century, the Pullman Car Company was the nation's largest employer of African Americans, and Pullman porters made up 44% of this workforce; Pullman's 1937 contract with its porters was the first major labor agreement between an African American union and a corporation.
