Lincoln City, Indiana – Are you or someone you know between 15 and 18 years old and interested in a summer job at Lincoln Boyhood National Memorial? Applications are being accepted until 4:00 p.m. April 26, 2024, for the park's Youth Conservation Corps (YCC) summer employment program. The YCC session dates for Lincoln Boyhood National Memorial are June 3- July 26, 2024. Participants will work and train as a team to perform a variety of tasks to include the repair and maintenance of hiking trails, and to participate in safety training. Work may require the use of shovels, rakes, wheelbarrows, pruning shears, hand saws, hammers, and other hand tools. The pay is $15.00 per hour for a 40-hour work week. Housing is not available.
YCC engages young people in meaningful work experiences at national parks, forests, wildlife refuges, and fish hatcheries, while developing an ethic of environmental stewardship and civic responsibility. YCC participants are paid to work, learn, and gain leadership skills. No prior experience is needed, just an eagerness to make a difference.
“We look forward every year for the arrival of the Lincoln Boyhood YCC work team as they add their enthusiasm for conservation work to our summer projects,” Superintendent Rhonda Schier said. “Our YCC team members tell us they enjoy the variety of outdoor work in the forested environment of the park, the camaraderie with their National Park Service colleagues, and the valuable work experience that serves as a strong foundation for future jobs and job applications. A highlight for the team is looking back at the end of the season and seeing their contributions to successfully completed projects and an improved park landscape.”
