His September 10 entry includes a long, detailed description of “this remarkable mound of earth…” #LewisandClarkTrail More: https://www.nps.gov/articles/grave-creek-mound.htm With the 1,200-mile extension of the Lewis and Clark National Historic Trail in May 2019, a fourth major North American river became an official part of the Trail – the Ohio River, joining the Mississippi, Missouri, and Columbia Rivers. #LewisandClarkTrail https://www.nps.gov/articles/the-ohio-river.htm Lewis wrote about Joseph and Reuben Fields, “Two of the most active and enterprising young men who accompanied us. It was their peculiar fate to have been engaged in all the most dangerous and difficult scenes of the voyage, in which they uniformly acquited themselves with much honor.” #LewisandClarkTrail https://www.nps.gov/articles/reuben-and-joseph-field.htm Meriwether Lewis was surely anxious on October 15, 1803. Being nervous navigating the keelboat and the pirogues through the long rapids of the Ohio, he hired local pilots to get everything safely to Clarksville in Indiana Territory. When the boats tied up, he immediately set off to find his old friend and new partner, William Clark, who was living with his brother, George Rogers Clark.
