Lassen Volcanic National Park is proud to be part of California’s extensive charging network for electric vehicles (EVs). Two Level 2 chargers are available outside the Kohm Yah-mah-nee Visitor Center near the Southwest Entrance, 24 hours a day, year-round. Enjoy a visit to the Kohm Yah-mah-nee Visitor Center or a hike on the Mill Creek Falls Trail while your vehicle is charging.

Download the free Liberty Hydra App Before Traveling to the Park

Payment is only accepted through the app (Android or iOS); cell service is extremely limited and WiFi is slow and bandwidth is limited. The Liberty Hydra app provides a code upon purchase that you then enter via a keypad at the station to initiate charging.

 
 

How To Use

A. Before Arriving at the Park

  • Download and install the free Liberty Hydra mobile app (Android or iOS).
  • Create an account and add a payment method.

B. At the Kohm Yah-mah-nee Visitor Center

  1. Connect to NPS Visitor WiFi at the entrance to or inside the visitor center.There is no password. Open your browser to access login page and review and accept conditions to connect.
  2. Select Charge from the bottom menu of the Liberty Hydra app on your phone.
  3. Click on Lassen Peak NPS (000004) from the list or map to see pricing by charge time.
  4. Use the drop down to select a duration and click Get Code to accept the charge (the app will charge your stored card).
  5. Leave the code on your phone screen and park your vehicle at an open spot in front of the charger.
  6. If you cannot connect, please proceed to the Lassen Cafe and Gift Shop inside the visitor center to purchase a code. (Please note that park rangers do not have codes.)

At the Charging Station (in the parking area)

  1. Plug the connector into your vehicle.
  2. Use keypad to enter code:*, Space Number, #code#
    Green light means code accepted; orange light means code not accepted (try again)
  3. Check the light on the charging unit forPower (yellow) and Charging (green).
    If Power light is on and Charging light is off, reconnect the charger to your vehicle.
    Please consider setting an alarm to return to your vehicle when charging is complete.
  4. When charging is complete: ensure the connector is securely inserted into the holder and drape the cable loosely around the holder. Allowing water or ice to enter the connector or driving over the cable can cause irreparable damage.

The Lassen EV Charging Station was funded through a grant from the California Energy Commission, which made $1.5 million available to the National Park Service to install electric vehicle (“EV”) charging infrastructure in NPS sites throughout California.
