Be a Junior Ranger

Become a Lassen Volcanic National Park Virtual Junior Ranger!

Just like park rangers, junior rangers are important people who help preserve and protect Lassen Volcanic National park and all its features for present and future generations. While it may not be possible to visit Lassen Volcanic National Park in person, we'd like to invite you to become a junior ranger online. Here's how:

1. Download and print a Lassen Coloring Sheet.

2. Color the sheet and add your own styles and touches!

3. Take a picture of the completed coloring sheet (you can choose to be in the pic...or not) and send it to lavo_information@nps.gov. Include your name and mailing address.

4. Once we receive your email, we will mail you a paper cut-out Junior Ranger badge, a Junior Ranger sticker, and a certificate. Here's what they look like!

5. When you receive the certificate, say the Junior Ranger Promise with an adult and proudly display your certificate, sticker, and badge!

6. Congratulations! You're a Lassen Volcanic National Park Virtual Junior Ranger!

Junior Ranger Program

COVID-19 Modification: A ranger will be available to handout booklets, review completed Junior Ranger booklets, and award badges outside the Loomis Museum and Kohm Yah-mah-nee Visitor Center, daily between 10 am and 4 pm.

We highly recommend printing the booklet (2.86 MB, pdf) beforehand and bringing it with you, if possible. Please note that the Junior Ranger program is designed to be completed at the park; we are unable to mail out badges.

How to Become a Lassen Volcanic National Park Junior Ranger:
  1. Kids Pick up a Junior Ranger Activity Booklet at the Loomis Museum or Kohm Yah-mah-nee Visitor Center.
  2. Share your completed booklet with a ranger at the Loomis Museum or Kohm Yah-mah-nee Visitor Center.
  3. Take your oath to receive a Lassen Volcanic National Park Junior Ranger badge for your hard work and dedication to the park!
Please note: The activities in the Junior Ranger booklet are best-suited to kids age 5 to 12.
