The National Park Service would like to remind the public that even though the Porcupine Bay roadwork has been completed by Lincoln County Public Works, the Porcupine Bay campground, day-use, and boat launch remains closed until further notice. Our tentative timeline is to have the boat launch open by Memorial Day weekend.
With the boat launch open, however, only a portion of the dock at the launch ramp will be available for use. There will be no other courtesy docks available until repairs can be made. All of the docks were damaged during the winter of 2017 when the Spokane River froze over. The docks require a combination of repairs ranging from hinge welding to structural rebuilding.
The campground and day-use area will remain closed for an additional period while we replace all of the water lines within the area. Originally scheduled for the spring of 2017, this work will involve trenching and other ground disturbance that will make the area unsafe for visitors. Other work that must be completed before we can reopen the campground and day-use includes, but is not limited to hazard tree removal, log boom and buoy repair at the swim beach, general grounds clean-up and removal of dead materials, and the repaving of all asphalt surfaces.
