Beginning at 12:01 am, Thursday, June 14, 2018, the Superintendent has lifted the closure of federal land located within Locust Grove, Lions Island, and the Kettle Falls Trail System with the exception of the slash piles located within the previously closed area. For safety reasons, the slash piles are off limits to the public.
The National Park Service is taking a phased approach to managing invasive species in this area that may include more selective removal of black locust and replanting of native trees, such as cottonwoods. It is our desire to maintain the aesthetics of the area while removing the invasive vegetation and reducing the available mosquito habitat.
