Two special film screenings of the documentary film Waterbuster will be held on Saturday, July 16, 2011 at Knife River Indian Villages NHS. The hour-long film will be shown first at 1:00 p.m. Central Time and repeated again at 2:30 p.m. Central Time. Waterbuster tells the story of the massive Garrison Dam project on the Upper Missouri River and its profound impact on the Mandan, Hidatsa, and Arikara community living on the Fort Berthold Reservation. Waterbuster director J. Carlos Peinado says "Waterbuster is a film about North Dakota, for the people of North Dakota, regardless of heritage, ethnicity, or political stripe. Recent events have demonstrated that we have much to learn about our collective relationship with our environment, but it all begins with what we in our state, know all about: community, friendship, and willingness to serve (and sometimes sacrifice.) The fact that Waterbuster, after five years of its release, continues to inform the people of North Dakota and beyond, is a testament to its chronicle of North Dakota history towards the overall story of the United States." Superintendent Wendy Ross says "This documentary is especially relevant due to the recent flooding of the Missouri River below Garrison Dam.This film reminds us that the construction of the dam has changed the landscape in ways that we are still experiencing today." There is no charge for the event. All events are held on Central Time. For more information, please call the park at 701-745-3300. |
