Jason Verhaeghe was recently hired as the Education Specialist for Klondike Gold Rush National Historical Park. For the past two summers, Jason has worked enthusiastically as a seasonal ranger at Klondike's Junior Ranger Center with youth and families. Receiving his first Junior Ranger badge in 1997 at Yellowstone National Park made a strong impression on him. He continued to love the outdoors and received a B.S. degree in Recreation, Parks and Leisure studies at Minnesota State University-Mankato. After graduation, Jason worked for Alaska Mountain Guides in Skagway and gained experience as a camp counselor and pre-school teacher. He enjoys sharing his expertise of "Leave No Trace" ethics because it ties closely to the NPS mission- saving precious resources for future generations. This is Jason's first permanent assignment with the National Park Service. His predecessor, Amanda McCutcheon, accepted a transfer to Glacier National Park in Montana. |
