SKAGWAY, AK — In celebration of National Park Week and National Dog Day, Klondike Gold Rush National Historical Park welcomes pets and their people to become B.A.R.K. Rangers on Wednesday, August 26. Participants can complete a self-guided tour of outdoor spaces within the park, learn about responsible, pet-friendly recreation on public lands, and earn small tokens of recognition.
“Just as many stampeders found faithful, hard-working sled dogs to be an important part of their gold rush experience, many community members and visitors to Klondike Gold Rush National Historical Park cherish their time with their pets,” said Program Manager for Interpretation & Education Tyra Olstad, “We welcome pets of all kinds to outdoor spaces in the park and encourage their human companions to abide by B.A.R.K. Ranger principles: Bag your pet’s waste, Always wear a leash, Respect wildlife, and Know where you can go.”
B.A.R.K. Rangers can meet park rangers and begin and end their self-guided tour at the Moore House lawn any time between 5 - 7 p.m. Directions will also be available at the park visitor center Wednesday, August 26. Please note that pets must be leashed and are not allowed inside government buildings; only qualified, leashed service dogs are allowed inside park facilities. All events are free and open to the public.
