SKAGWAY, AK — Klondike Gold Rush National Historical Park invites visitors of all ages to celebrate Junior Ranger Day Thursday, July 30, with hands-on activities, live entertainment, and opportunities to explore the park and earn a Junior Ranger badge.

Visitors can enjoy:

  • Performances by the Chilkat Dancers of Klukwan and Haines.
  • Meeting live raptors with the American Bald Eagle Foundation.
  • Meeting park staff and learning about the many roles National Park Service rangers perform.
  • Historic costumes, ice cream making, an obstacle course, and other family friendly activities guided by community organizations.
  • A live musical performance.
  • An appearance by Nuggets the Bear.
  • And a group Junior Ranger swearing-in ceremony.

Visitors can also stop by the Junior Ranger Activity Center in the historic Pantheon building at Broadway and Fourth Avenue. The center offers a welcoming space for children, families, and all visitors to explore hands-on exhibits, talk to park rangers, and complete a Junior Ranger book.

“Junior Rangers are some of our most enthusiastic and inspiring visitors,” said Program Manager for Interpretation & Education Tyra Olstad, “We look forward to celebrating them at Junior Ranger Day and every day at Klondike Gold Rush National Historical Park.”

A detailed schedule will be available at the park visitor center Thursday, July 30. All events are free and open to the public.
