Temporary Closure of Parking Lots within Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park
Kennesaw, GA– During the week of March 12, specific parking lots and roads within Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park will be improved by crack-sealing the asphalt. Preserving roads and parking areas are critical in maintaining park access and visitor enjoyment. On these given dates below, parking lots or roads will be closed for a minimal amount of time while work is occurring.
Monday, March 12: Two areas of the park will improved upon as part of the pavement project. 1) The Mountain Road and the mountain top parking lot will be crack-sealed. The Mountain Road will be closed all day; 2) The Illinois Monument parking lot (at the end of Cheatham Hill Drive) will be crack-sealed. The Illinois Monument parking lot will be closed while work is in progress. Access for Cheatham Hill Drive will still be provided.
Tuesday, March 13: This is designated as a “rain date” in the event that work on Monday is halted due to poor weather conditions.
Wednesday, March 14: The Visitor Center Parking Lot will be crack-sealed. The Visitor Center parking lot will be closed while work is occurring. Visitors wishing to use this parking lot will be directed to the overflow parking lot off Old 41, approximately ¼ mile from the Visitor Center. The Visitor Center parking lot will reopen upon work completion.
Thursday, March 15: The Old 41 Parking Lot entrance will be closed until approximately 9:00 or 9:30 while the entrance road section is being crack-sealed. Once the entrance is open, the parking lot will be sectioned of while the crack-seal work is underway. Half of the lot will be open for visitor parking during this time; half of the lot will be closed for crack-seal work.
Friday, March 16: Half of the Old 41 Parking Lot will be closed during the crack-seal work. The other half of the lot will remain open.
