Contact: Marjorie Thomas, 770-427-4686 x231 Sunday afternoon (January 29), a small fire was detected on Little Kennesaw. National Park Service (NPS) rangers responded immediately. The firefighting efforts have been led by Marietta Fire Department, in conjunction with Cobb County Fire, the NPS, Georgia State Patrol’s Aviation Unit, Georgia Dept. of Natural Resources Aviation Unit, Cobb County Police Department, Marietta Police Department and the Georgia Forestry Commission. Approximately two acres have burned. The cause is under investigation. Due to fire in the area, until further notice, the Pigeon Hill Trail (from the top of the Big Kennesaw Mountain down to Burnt Hickory Road) is closed. The Mountain Road will also remain closed to personal vehicles until further notice. |
