Injured Hiker Extracted from Kenai Fjords National Park via Helicopter

On Thursday, July 15, at approximately 2:00 pm the park received a report of an injured hiker with suspected head, neck, and spinal injuries. The hiker was located at approximately mile 1.25 of the Harding Icefield Trail within Kenai Fjords National Park.

By 2:30 pm, Park Rangers with medical training and the Bear Creek Volunteer Fire Department responded to the incident location. A National Park Service team of emergency responders was assembled in case the injured party would need to be carried out. Alaska State Troopers also responded to the scene with a helicopter.

The injured hiker walked to the helicopter and was evacuated to Providence Seward Medical Center at approximately 3:47 pm.

The National Park Service sincerely appreciates the continued support of and partnership with the Alaska State Troopers and the Bear Creek Volunteer Fire Department.
