On August 29, 2021, at approximately 16:16 hours, Alaska Standard Time, the Kenai Fjords National Park received a telephone call from a hiker on the Harding Icefield Trail approximately one mile above Marmot Meadows. The caller reported cramping and spasms in both legs preventing him from descending down the mountain. U.S. Park Rangers and volunteers from the Bear Creek Fire Department responded and hiked to the patient. The Alaska State Troopers requested a LifeMed Alaska helicopter. The patient was treated on location and was able to walk down the mountain and the helicopter was canceled.

The National Park Service sincerely appreciates the continued partnership with the Alaska State Troopers, Bear Creek Fire Department, and their support for critical missions.
