Determination to close Exit Glacier Trail

I am closing the portion of the Main Trail within the Exit Glacier Developed Area between the Nature Center and the Stone Kiosk effective July 24, 2019, until further notice, in accordance with 36 CFR 13.50. I have determined that this closure is necessary for public health and safety and the protection of wildlife. The closure is consistent with the purposes of Kenai Fjords National Park enabling legislation and also with the Kenai Fjords National Park bear management plan published in 2015. This represents the best available science for managing human and bear conflicts within the park. Staff will continue to monitor the situation and adjust the closure accordingly.
