Brooks Falls Bearcam

If you have trouble viewing the Brooks Falls webcam below, check out the Brooks Falls cam on explore.org.

  • Location: Brooks Falls Wildlife Viewing Platform at Brooks Camp.
  • When to Watch: July is the best time to watch bears fishing at Brooks Falls. However, bears are in the area from mid spring until mid fall and a few bears may fish at Brooks Falls in September and October. Katmai’s brown bears are most active during daylight hours.
  • In the Off Season: Because the cam is solar powered, it does not run year round. When this is the case, the stream will show highlights from previous years.
  • What to Look For: From late June until late July, watch for sockeye (red) salmon jumping the falls and dominant male bears competing for fishing spots. Later in the summer and fall, a few bears may also fish at Brooks Falls. As many as 50+ bears have been seen fishing at Brooks Falls at the same time.
If you desire a more interactive experience, please visit our webcam partner's website, explore.org. They have all of the cams, plus chat and social media connections, and be sure to download the eBooks on Katmai’s bears. These books are free and have lots of photos of the bears, their life histories, videos, maps. Questions? Browse the bearcam frequently asked questions.
