KING SALMON, Alaska –– Katmai National Park and Preserve will increase the fee for overnight camping at its Brooks Campground for the 2023 camping season. Brooks Campground is open seasonally from May 1st-October 31st. Reservations for 2023 open on January 5, 2023 and are obtained through Brooks Camp Permit, Katmai National Park & Preserve - Recreation.gov.The new fees for the Brooks Campground are listed below:

  • Peak Season Rate (For the dates of June 1-September 17): $18.00/ person/ night

  • Non-peak Season Rate (May1-May 30 and September 18-October 31): $10.00/ person/ night

  • The $6.00 advanced reservation fee that applies to each reservation will remain the same.

Before approving the increase, public comment was solicitated during the month of September that resulted in a mostly favorable response to the proposed increase. Increased revenue from campground fees will enable the park to keep up with the rising costs of campground operations, better maintain facilities, and provide for additional ADA compliance within the campground. These fee increases are consistent with other public and private campgrounds within Alaska and are the first campground fee increases the park has implemented since 2013.
