The Juniper Flats Zone features open valleys, mountainous terrain, and panoramic views. It offers higher, cooler elevations ranging from ~4,400 to nearly 5,600 feet. During the colder months, freezing temperatures are common. Overnight camping is not allowed near Stubbe Springs due to sensitive resources.

Trails: The Stubbe Springs Loop (12 miles round-trip) and the California Hiking and Riding Trail.

Bordering Zones: Covington, Quail Wash, and Lost Horse.

Closest Backcountry Trailheads to Enter/Exit: Juniper Flats (4,340’) and Covington Flats (4800’). To reach the Covington Flats trailhead, a 4-wheel drive vehicle is recommended.
