Volunteer groups help park staff achieve larger projects. The park typically accommodates volunteer groups Monday -Thursday between September and May. Weekend work is extremely limited. Campsites may be available. Contact the park volunteer coordinator at 760-367-5507 or by email (jotr_volunteers@nps.gov) to inquire about group volunteer projects.
Groups must fulfill general requirements:
Contact the volunteer coordinator at least 60 days prior to the proposed volunteer day
Park must be aware of any participants requiring special accommodations upon initial contact
Group must consist of 5-25 people 8 years old or older
Group must work at least 6 hours
Group must provide transportation to and from work sites (parking is limited)

Hike with park staff to secluded areas to measure the park’s namesake plant for scientific analysis.

Remove modern trash from campgrounds, picnic areas, and popular sight-seeing locations.

Work with park staff to repair damage caused by unauthorized off-road vehicles and to prevent future damage.

Climbing trail delineation
Work with park staff to collect and place rocks along designated climbing access trails as to prevent the creation of social trails.
