KIMBERLY – The National Park Service wants the public to know that the Federal Highways Administration and their contractors will be working on paved parking lots and paved roads at the Sheep Rock and Clarno Units of John Day Fossil Beds National Monument. This will not affect any US or Oregon Highways that pass through the monument.

This work is scheduled to occur:

  • Friday June 5th and Monday June 8th through Friday June 12th
  • Tuesday June 30th through Thursday July 2nd for pavement striping
“No Parking” signs will be placed along the street or parking area 48 hours prior to the work being started. These signs will have specific dates and times that all parking or traveling on the area will be restricted. Also visitors could encounter unscheduled and intermittent closures during these timeframes.

“This maintenance is important to continue providing a quality experience for park users and is necessary to preserve park infrastructure”, said Superintendent Shelley Hall, “We have planned the work to minimize impacts on visitors and appreciate their patience during the project”.

The park website will be updated with the most current closure information.
