Saturday, May 29, 2010-12:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Did you know that downtown St. Louis was a battlefield during the American Revolutionary War? In the famous “Battle of Fort San Carlos,” Spanish soldiers and a citizen militia defended the town against a determined British- led attack composed of American Indians of several different tribes. If the battle had been won by the British and Indians, American history might have been quite different. Learn about this unique moment in St. Louis history from rangers and volunteers dressed in historic clothing who will portray village residents and tell the story of the British-Indian attack from several different perspectives. Demonstrations and talks will be on the grounds at the South Leg of the Gateway Arch. All ranger-led and special museum programs are FREE of charge and open to the public, due to the generous support of Jefferson National Parks Association.
