Climate Change at Isle Royale

Lake Superior’s cold, deep waters both isolate and protect Isle Royale from outside influences. Despite the island’s geographic separation, evidence has shown that it is not unaffected by the outside world. As our planet becomes more interconnected, it is unlikely Isle Royale will be able to remain isolated from forces like human driven climate change.

Things like rising temperatures, higher water levels, and more frequent severe storms will force inevitable change on Lake Superior, altering nearly every aspect of Isle Royale’s character - its habitats, ecosystems, historical and cultural resources, and, in turn, the human experience on the island.
