Philadelphia – On December 9, 2019, the Global Philadelphia Association honored Cynthia MacLeod, Superintendent, Independence National Historical Park, by presenting her with its annual Globy Award for Historical and Cultural Preservation Leadership. Global Philadelphia presented five awards, designed to recognize leaders engaged in globally significant work in the Philadelphia Region. The award highlights MacLeod’s work with the park, underscoring the importance of Independence Hall as a UNESCO designated World Heritage Site and with the Independence Historical Trust, as they have grown in their mission to support the preservation and education mission of Independence National Historical Park.

Superintendent MacLeod also received a citation from Philadelphia City Council recognizing her work on the renovations to some of Philadelphia’s most recognizable buildings, including the tower exterior of Independence Hall, the Benjamin Franklin Museum, the Independence Visitor Center, and the President’s House Site. The citation also recognized her work in overseeing the completion and installation of three new exhibits at Edgar Allan Poe National Historic Site, Thaddeus Kosciuszko National Memorial, and the Germantown White House.

In accepting the award, Superintendent MacLeod remarked, “I truly appreciate my skilled team at Independence National Historical Park and the Independence Historical Trust, who understand that maintenance is preservation and who care for our treasured historic resources. We do so on your behalf; we are proud to be an asset to the City of Philadelphia, and the United States of America.”
