PHILADELPHIA—Independence Hall will be closed to visitors from November 13, 2025, to January 28, 2026, to enable preservation teams to complete comprehensive interior work to prepare the site for the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence in 2026. The temporary closure of the entire building will expedite completion of the project and resumption of public tours.

Independence National Historical Park remains committed to providing a meaningful visitor experience. The park will provide alternate experiences for the public to learn about Independence Hall and the foundational documents debated and signed inside the historic structure. Those planning to visit the park during that time period should check the park website for updated information and closure alerts, as well as notifications on Recreation.gov.

In preparation for the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence in 2026 and in alignment with Executive Order 14253, the National Park Service has been making infrastructure repairs and improvements to historic structures and features on Independence Square. This Independence Square Improvement Project has been underway since March 2025, with rehabilitation and preservation work already concluded in both Congress Hall and Old City Hall. Key elements of this project include the construction of accessible ramps; repair and restoration of wood elements, masonry, plaster, and metal finishes; and application of historically accurate paint finishes to the ceilings, walls, and trim.

This third and final building closure permits the National Park Service to complete exciting and necessary work to preserve the historic fabric of the site, ensuring that Independence Hall—where the Declaration of Independence and the U.S. Constitution were debated and signed—continues to serve as a beacon of American freedom and connect current and future visitors with the inspirational story of the country's founding.
