PHILADELPHIA – The National Park Service continues to closely monitor and respond to the COVID-19 pandemic. Following guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the state, and city of Philadelphia’s guidelines on reopening museums, Independence National Historical Park has several changes to announce. On Monday, June 28, the park’s anniversary, the Benjamin Franklin Museum will reopen to visitors (daily 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.) and new programming in Washington Square will begin (ranger talks daily 10 a.m., 11 a.m., 2 p.m. and 4 p.m.) and at City Tavern (daily 10 a.m.-4 p.m.).

On July 1, all capacity limits will be lifted except at Independence Hall where the limit will be 50 people per tour. Masks for unvaccinated people are required for indoor spaces.

Also, beginning July 1, tickets for Independence Hall will be available online at www.recreation.gov or by phone 1-877-444-6777 (10 a.m. to midnight EST) for all Hall tours, 9 a.m. through 4:45 p.m. For a limited period this summer, each day, beginning at 8:30 a.m. at 5th and Chestnut Streets, a limited number of tickets for the 9 a.m. through 12:45 pm tours will be available, first come first served, one ticket per person. Congress Hall, also on Independence Square, is available for visits without tickets, as space permits.

Details and updates on park operations will continue to be posted on our website www.nps.gov/INDE  and social media channels. Updates about NPS operations will be posted to www.nps.gov/coronavirus.
