About Us

Sonoran Desert Network

The Sonoran Desert Network (SODN) is one of 32 networks that comprise the National Park Service Inventory & Monitoring (I&M) Division. The network is responsible to a Board of Directors and Technical Committee composed of park superintendents and staff who participate on a rotational basis. Our headquarters are at the Desert Research Learning Center.

Southwest Network Collaboration

SODN leverages staff and resources by engaging in a number of partnerships. Chief among them is the Southwest Network Collaboration, a joint effort between SODN, the Chihuahuan Desert Network, and Southern Plains Network. The three networks share protocols, training, data management, field crews, and reporting responsibilities for eight common vital signs: air quality; climate; invasive exotic plants; groundwater; landbirds; streams; springs, seeps, and tinajas; and terrestrial vegetation and soils.
