From 2004 to 2024, the NPS Natural Resource Publication Series published more than 5,000 reports on natural resource topics in four different series, listed below. Combined, these series were managed by the Inventory & Monitoring Division since 2009, typically producing 200 to 300 reports each year.

Natural Resource Report Series: Information, analysis, and results about natural resources on NPS lands (2,677 reports).

Natural Resource Data Series: Timely release of basic datasets and data summaries about natural resources on NPS lands that may be preliminary in nature (1,281 reports).

Natural Resource Technical Report Series: Results of studies about natural resources on NPS lands (1,049 reports).
To broaden the scope of NPS science publications to fields beyond natural resources, the Natural Resource Publication Series was replaced by the Science Publication Series in 2024. The Science Publication Series is also managed by the NPS Inventory & Monitoring Division.
