Register for the Interactive SNOWCATCHER Children’s Blizzard Workshop

at Homestead National Monument of America

The Blizzard of 1888 made a deep impact on many Nebraskans families. Register now and join us on Sunday, January 7, 2018 beginning at 2:00 p.m. for an interactive workshop that utilizes creative thinking and theatrical expression to explore this meaningful historical event. This hands-on workshop will involve theatrical scenarios centered on the blizzard of 1888. These scenarios will provide historical information and a fresh perspective on what settlers truly faced as the blizzard blew over. This workshop is presented by Homestead National Monument and Beatrice Community Players and offered to everyone aged 8 and up. Admission is free of cost. This event will be held in the Homestead Education Center. To register for the workshop, please contact home_information@nps.gov or 402.223.3514.

The workshop will be led by Becky Boesen and Petra Wahlqvist of BLIXT. Becky is a writer, lyricist, director, actor, and teaching artist. Currently, Boesen is touring her latest play, SNOWCATCHER, a one-woman show commissioned by the Midwest Theatre and Lincoln Arts Council. Set against the schoolchildren’s blizzard of 1888, SNOWCATCHER explores issues of child bereavement following the death of a parent. Petra is the Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer of BLIXT. She is a project creator, actor and producer. She most recently served as the Education and Community Engagement Director at the Lied Center for Performing Arts, where she oversaw the Lied Education department for seven years.
