Singenden Wanderer German Men’s Choir will perform at the Homestead National Monument of America Education Center on Sunday, December 16, 2018, at 2:00p.m. instead of the original date of December 9. This unique performance will give visitors a glimpse into the music culture brought to the plains by German immigrants during the homesteading period. The group will sing both in German and in English. They have a lively repertoire of music and like to get the audience involved.
“Singenden Wanderer provides a fun musical act that both entertains and educates,” said Superintendent Mark Engler.
On Sunday, December 9, Gwenith Colgrove of the Great Plains Welsh Heritage Project from Wymore, Nebraska will give a presentation on Welsh culture and holiday traditions as part of the Winter Festival of Prairie Cultures. This program begins at 2 p.m. at the Homestead National Monument of America Education Center. Learn about unique Welsh traditions such as the wassailing tradition of Mari Lwyd.
The Winter Festival of Prairie Cultures features decorated trees and tabletop displays featuring ornaments and hand-made crafts that reflect the spirit of hope, humor, traditions, and generosity which characterized settlers of the West. Cultures represented this year include Czech, French, German, Hispanic, Irish, Polish, Scottish, Swedish, and Welsh.
