Learn about the Omaha Indian Nation and the Homestead Act at Homestead National Monument of America on November 4 with Dr. Rudi MitchellDr. Rudi Mitchell will be presenting a free program on the history of the Omaha Indian Nation at Homestead National Monument of America’s Education Center on November 4, 2018 at 2:00 p.m.
Dr. Mitchell is an enrolled member of the Omaha Indian Nation. He retired in 2013 from Creighton University, where he taught Native American Studies. He is a former Tribal Chairman of the Omaha Indian Nation and is a direct descendant of Chief Big Elk. Dr. Mitchell, whose doctorate degree was in Education for Counseling and Psychology, today serves as a Qualified Expert Witness in child welfare cases for the Omaha Nation in Lincoln and Omaha, Nebraska.
The month of November has been celebrated every year as “National American Indian Heritage Month” since 1990, and it is a time when we are invited to reflect as a Nation on the contributions American Indians have made to the country.

Homestead National Monument of America is a unit of the National Park Service located four miles west of Beatrice, Nebraska. Hours of operation are 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Admission is free of charge.
