Announcing the Homestead Days Stage Line-up!
for Homestead National Monument of America

Homestead National Monument of America announces the Homestead Days Line Up for 2018!!  The 2018 Homestead Day stage lineup is set and will feature topics and performances of music and programs featuring one-room and country schools, Lessons Learned from President Lincoln, Traditional Irish Dance, and much more! We invite you to Homestead National Monument of America on Friday, June 22, 2018 through Sunday, June 24, 2018 to participate in this weekend full of free events!

On Friday, June 22, at 1 p.m., Nina Jean Rohlfs will present “Days of the One Room Schoolhouse”. This program will focus on the importance of education on the frontier and give a glimpse into the everyday on-goings at one-room schools.

At 2 p.m. on Friday, Paul Siebert will take us back in time with his living history presentation of “Memories of One-Room Schools.” With a repertoire of hundreds of songs, his experience in live performance from living history events, concert stage, singer-songwriting, classrooms to retirement living- all ages seem to be at home with Paul’s inviting charisma.

On Saturday, June 23 beginning at 12 p.m., the Homestead Harmonizers will open the afternoon stage performances. The Harmonizers are a men’s barbershop chorus whose members range in age from 14 to 80 plus years old. The melodic tones and precision in their music has led them to many state and national honors, including singing the National Anthem at a Chicago Cubs baseball game!

Learn from the man who signed the Homestead Act. Internationally Acclaimed One-Man Lincoln Performance: Gene Griessman, Ph.D. spent years hosting a major television show on TBS.  Griessman will present “Lessons Learned from President Lincoln” at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. on both Saturday, June 23 and Sunday, June 24.

The Lincoln Irish Dancers will take the stage with a live performance of Traditional Irish dance. The group has been performing since 1997 with a mission “to heighten awareness and appreciation of traditional Irish dance, and to celebrate Irish culture.” Join in on the fun during their performances on both Saturday and Sunday beginning at 2 p.m. each day.
Beginning at 4 p.m. on both Saturday and Sunday, Deb Carpenter-Nolting and Lyn Messersmith will present “Legends and Leaders of the West.” Their program focuses on the leaders and legends that shaped the American West, bringing each to life through stories, songs, and poems.

“Visitors will get to experience an assortment of talents in song and dance. We are excited about the variety of programs included in this year’s stage presentations. From traditional Irish dance to a portrayal of the 16th President, this event will provide a wealth of information about the Homestead Act and do so in a fun and engaging way,” stated Superintendent Mark Engler.
