BEATRICE, Neb. – Join Park Guide Tanner Christy at Homestead National Historical Park on Sunday, August 25, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. for a special program celebrating the 108th birthday of the National Park Service. This program will delve into the early history of the National Park Service, the creation of Homestead National Historical Park, and the special natural and cultural resources that the National Park Service protects. This program will be held in the multipurpose room in the Education Center.
The National Park Service’s Birthday, or “Founder’s Day,” celebrates when the National Park Service was created on August 25, 1916, to "preserve unimpaired the natural and cultural resources and values of the National Park System for the enjoyment, education, and inspiration of this and future generations." Over the hundred plus years, we've grown into more than 400 national parks and many programs that reach communities around the country—and even the world!
There are many ways to celebrate. You can visit Homestead in person, or you can follow on social media using the hashtag #NPSBirthday and #YourParkStory.
Remember, Homestead National Historical Park has an exciting schedule of events planned for 2024. Keep up with the latest information by following us on Twitter (HomesteadNHP) and Facebook (Homestead National Historical Park).
