Final Campfire Program of the Season to Feature Genealogy and Blues Music
Beatrice, Nebraska – Homestead National Historical Park will wrap up this year’s campfire series on Saturday, August 7th, at 7 PM. Beth Sparrow of the Nebraska State Genealogy Society will present an introductory program on family history research. Sparrow has been researching her family for over 19 years. She began working as a professional genealogist in August 2012. She researches for clients and gives presentations on genealogy topics. Sparrow has experience speaking to groups across the region, such as libraries and genealogy societies. Her special area of focus is the Midwest (Nebraska, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Indiana, Ohio, Missouri, and Wisconsin), and she is a member of the Polk County Historical Society, the Association for Professional Genealogists, and the National Genealogical Society. CA Waller will follow with a musical program that will introduce eight different types of blues music. The blues is a truly American art form that was cultivated in many of the 30 homesteading states.
This campfire program will be held at the campfire ring behind the Education Center. Folding chairs will be available to guests, but we welcome lawn chairs and blankets as well. Insect repellant and water are highly recommended. This event is made possible by the generosity of The Friends of Homestead and Humanities Nebraska.
“Genealogy research has the ability to connect individuals to major historical events and themes in a personal way. Over 93 million Americans are descended from a homesteader,” stated Mark Engler, Superintendent.
