On December 15, 2018, a 63-year old woman suffered a medical emergency near the Haleakalā Visitor Center. She was initially treated by Haleakalā National Park rangers. Emergency medical personnel responded and took over treatment. The woman was pronounced deceased at approximately 11 am.
