Kula, HI—Some new changes to improve the visitor experience are in the works at the Summit District of Haleakalā National Park. Beginning Monday, March 6, 2023, National Park Service contractors will be working on the installation of a new drain field system used for the Haleakalā Visitor Center restrooms. The installation of the new drain field has been recommended and approved by the Hawai‘i Department of Health. The work will take place near the parking lot at the Haleakalā Visitor Center at 9,740 feet. The restrooms will remain open during the installation. This project was made possible by the park entrance fees for Haleakalā National Park through the Federal Lands Recreation Enhancement Act (FLREA).
