McLean, Va.— On Monday, April 10, the National Park Service (NPS) will close the Turkey Run Loop Road and parking lots so that construction workers can repair and repave road surfaces. The NPS expects these closures to be in place through October 2023.

Turkey Run Park and its trails will remain open, however, the only way to access them will be on foot via the Potomac Heritage National Scenic Trail.

The NPS will mill and resurface Turkey Run Loop Road and the parking lots within the park. The NPS will complete full depth repairs for some road surfaces. All repaired pavement surfaces will also receive new pavement markings.

This project was funded by park entrance fees. Among other uses, the NPS entrance fees are used for construction projects that directly enhance visitors’ enjoyment and access.

Located along the George Washington Memorial Parkway, Turkey Run Park preserves a vertical slice of the Potomac Gorge ecosystem that contains a combination of flora, upland forest, streams, underground seeps and flood terraces. The park also provides opportunities for picnicking and hiking.
